PhD Candidate of the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean

Alexandros Kelmalis is a maritime  economist, and a graduate of the department  business administration of the University of Western Attica and holds a master's degree in Shipping, transports   and international trade   of the University of the Aegean (Chios) with specialization in the management of shipping companies. He is operating with the hotel (ilyda residence) shipping industry (Anemos S.A) as well as in the field of e-commerce (pariselle.gr). He has worked at the Agricultural Bank as an investment advisor in the stock market sector and later at P&K brokerage as a technical analyst specializing in CFD and spreads. Since 2021 he is registered and attends the professional maritime with examinations program of the institute of chartered shipbrokers (Greek branch) to be certified as a shipbroker. He speaks with certification 5 foreign languages. He has published and presented at the international conference on environmental and science technology (CEST) a research conference on the gaseous pollutants of ships in the port of Mytilene and is preparing the publication for his research on the exhaust emissions of short-distance shipsHe  is  a Ph.D candidate from 2020 at the Department of the Environment, University of the Aegean (Lesvos) with a subject the  marine bio  fuels and new technologies for  reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and sulfur in these and he is a member of the group in the energy management laboratory of the department of Environment.His Ph.D thesis is: The Problematic Implementation of IMO 2020 Sulphur Regulation of fuels/biofuels and the life cycle assessment (L.C.A.) for the assessment of environment, navigation and shipping companies. Since 2021 participates to the  program Bioeconomy  and sustainable hotel development with emphasis on the use of alternative energy sources in hotels and he is deputy secretary of the regional scientific council for research and innovation of North Aegean region.
