Postgraduate Student of the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean

Spyridoula Schiza holds a degree in Environmental Science (B.Sc.) from the University of the Aegean and is a postgraduate student in the Postgraduate Program (M.Sc.) "Global Environmental Change, Management & Technology" in the field of Research in Environmental Science, University of the Aegean (Department of Environment). As part of the internship, she has worked as a laboratory assistant, in a private chemical laboratory on the island of Lesvos, over the quality control of municipal wastewater. The internship responsibilities included preparing samples and equipment, performing laboratory chemical analyzes, and accurately recording and interpreting reliable data. Her research during the undergraduate program focused on Ecological Engineering; for example, constructed wetlands, water management with nature-based solutions, and ecosystem remediation. Currently, her research, in the framework of the project of the Center for Circular and Sustainable Bioeconomy (Aegean_Bioeconomy) lies in the pilot application of natural based treatment systems (e.g., constructed wetlands) for the efficient treatment of cheese waste units on the island of Lesvos and in the utilization of biomass for energy production with the addition of conductive materials.
