PhD Candidate of the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean

Dimitra Kotsia holds a degree in Environmental Science (B.Sc) from the University of the Aegean and holds a Master's Degree in Planetary Environmental Change, Management and Technology from the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean. After completing her studies as an environmental scientist, she is working at the University of the Aegean in the Department of Environment as an external collaborator in chemical analyses of wastewater in various funded projects. In parallel with her work, she is a PhD student with a PhD thesis topic since 2022: "Development of electro-active artificial wetlands for the treatment of agro-industrial wastes" at the Water and Air Quality Laboratory of the Department of Environment, University of the Aegean. The fields of research interest during the undergraduate and postgraduate period were in the field of Ecological Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, Water Chemistry, etc. fields that combine the possibility of addressing environmental problems in natural ways such as artificial wetlands for wastewater treatment. Currently, her research in the framework of the Aegean Bioeconomy Centre project consists in the pilot application of artificial wetlands for the treatment of agro-industrial waste and the application of vegetation ditches for the enrichment of groundwater aquifers and the avoidance of rainwater pollution of the coastal area.
